Cara-Jean lay in bed, it was well after midnight, but she didn't want to sleep. Lately sleep brought back too many memories, memories she wanted to bury in the past where they belonged. Throwing back her covers, she sat up and put her feet on the floor, Walking across to her wardrobe, she pulled out an old practise leotard and slipped into that before exiting the room and heading down to the gym. If she couldn't sleep, she may as well be doing something productive.
Walking into the gym she closed the door softly behind her, turned the lights on and looked around. Her eyes shone when she saw the gymnastic apparatus. “Home sweet home.” She whispered, and went through her gymnastics warm up. She slid into the splits and stretched her upper body forward, to both sides and backward. She then rolled backward and jumped to her feet where she stretched out her arms and back thoroughly before walking over to the uneven bars. “Yeah, yeah.” She told herself with the tinyest of yawns. “I should start on the beam.” She raised her arm in a salute, as she would to the judges in a competition. “Let’s rock!”
She ran toward the bars and hitting the spring board, she flew into the air and grasped the low bar. From there did a long underswing , upstart to catch the highbar, she extended back under the low bar and gaining momentum swung back to the higher bar. With a backward somersault beginning in straddle piked position, she did a tumble turn to catch the low bar. From there she did a long underswing into to a move called skin the cat (passing straight leap between hands) and rose into back support on low bar. Kipping, she flew back up to the higher bar where she dismounted with a double pike somersault and landed on the ground, throwing both arms into the air.
“Stick that landing!” She cheered quietly as she did a small victory dance on the mat. Next she the jogged over to the beam.
Standing on the springboard, she placed her hands on the end of the beam. Bending her knees, she sprung into the air and came into a handstand on the beam. Doing the splits, she brought her foot down, followed by the other and stuck a pose, she then went into a needle scale (pretty much a fancy name for an arabesque). She then stepped forward, swung her other leg forward and down toward the beam and bent into a bridge. Striaghtening up again, she did an illusion, followed by a cartwheel she then jogged forward a couple of steps and dismounted the balance beam with a frontflip layout with a full rotation, landing squarely on the mat.
She walked over to the end of the vault run way. She shook her head slighty, to clear the fogginess that seemed to creap over her vision. "Breathe, just breathe." She whispered to herself as she rose her arm in salute to the invisable judges.
Moving her arms extra fast to give her exrtra speed, she raced down the runway and did a round-off entry onto the vault table and after blocking off the vault table, rotated a two and a half back somersault. Her feet touched the mat on the otherside of the vault and rather than being able to throw her arms up and stick her third landing for the day her knees buckled and she landed on her backside. "No!" She said, enraged with herself.
Standing up, she walked back to the end of the runway and repeated the process, again, unable to stick her landing. She punched the mat as she stood up and jogged back to the start of the run way, ready to do the vault again...
